SXSW Day 0, Part 2

OK, so everything IS bigger in Texas.  Down at the convention centre I registered and did some catch up with Elise (SomaFM), Marisol (IODA) and Corey (Rumblefish).   Nice to bump into friendly faces so quickly!

Apparently it’s mandatory to pick up “the big bag” at the convention, which is filled with lots of useful (and useless) stuff.  How many people are here? Check out the palettes of big bags that filled the amphitheatre-sized convention centre.  And that’s only a quarter of the floor space.  Ho-Hum, at least I’ve got Sgt. Solo to take home with me.

Speaking of which!  Back to the hotel for some grub and CD sampler preparation.  But I’ll be back down for the Music Opening party – that’s bound to lead to something a little bit livlier tonight…

SXSW Day 0, Part 1

Got to the hotel last night after an extensive flight from Newark…I got the middle seat (ugh) but was lucky enough to be between two lovely folks, one of whom was from Invest NI.

Nice little chat about the arrival of Northern Ireland’s Minister for Culture later in the week…I hope he’s not expecting too much culture in the rock n’ roll cesspool of south Texas!

I was determined to kill the jetlag monster so I slept for about 12 hours – now it’s off to the convention center to pick up my badge and my “big bag” (I’ll tell you about that later).  Not too much else planned – today’s a day for conserving energy, but I’ll probably try and foist myself on a party or two this evening.
